Virgin and child of Templeogue

This Virgin and Child was inspired by a passage written by St. Josemaria Escriva in his book "Way of the Cross". There he mentions the image of ones hand being pricked by the thorns but then one is elevated by the sight of the rose as analogous to Christ's death and Resurrection. I decided to depict the Christ Child reaching for the thorns symbolizing his willingness to be crucified for us and the Blessed Virgin is presenting him with the rose symbolizing her openness to God's will.
